This piece was wheel thrown from white stoneware. It was fired Cone 10. I did not glaze the piece but instead painted it with an acrylic flat black. The piece measures approximately 6 inches in height and the widest diameter is 6 inches. The mouth measures 2.5 inches. The Suede was chosen because of existing holes in the leather and was one piece with a hole big enough to go over the neck of the Vase. It did however require being cut to allow a snug fit around the shoulder and neck. Cuts were made to both sides of the split Suede to allow passing the black stich through. The Suede was then glued to the piece.
A jar and lid were wheel thrown from a stoneware clay that fires to a chocolate brown. The fired piece was not glazed or painted thus the chocolate natural color of the clay was utilized. I made a hole it the top of the lid to allow for the addition of a handle. A strip of soft Buckskin was used to create a collar to wrap the neck of the bottle. I then laced a hand cut fringe of buckskin through slits in the collar tied it with a square knot. Shorter pieces of fringe were tied to the laced fringe to duplicate the knot. A small translucent stone was chosen to become the handle for removal of the lid. This stone was secured by crisscrossed fringe that was then inserted in the hole in the lid and tied in a knot to keep it from slipping back through the lid hole.
